Care Plan FAQs
Why do I need a Care Plan?
It’s a bit like asking why you should service your car. Just because your website is digital, doesn’t remove the need for maintenance. Technology changes at great pace, and newer browser versions can display older websites differently, plus older software is more likely to be hacked due to known vulnerabilities that cyber criminals can exploit.
Having a care plan reduces the risk of your site breaking or becoming hacked and the associated brand damage this would bring. It’s peace of mind knowing that your site is being updated on a regular basis in a safe and secure way.
How do I know what work has been done?
We log every update we make to the core software and plugins to your site and every month we generate a report which shows the exact updates we have performed. This report also includes the results of our security scan so you’re aware of any vulnerable versions of software that might be running on your site.
I have my own website, can I add a Nettl Care Plan?
It’s unlikely. We can only add Care Plans to sites that use our own hosting service. If your site is brought over to our hosting platform we may be able to add a care plan, but this is at our discretion. All websites are built differently and we want to be confident that we can successfully maintain your website going forwards.
What do you update as part of the Care Plan?
Our care plans include updates to WordPress core software (like your phone or computer operating system), plugins (like the apps on your phone), and the theme that dictates the style and look of your website. Content changes and edits are not included in our care plans. These would be priced separately or need to be part of an additional ongoing retainer to cover the time.
What happens if my site breaks or is hacked?
Even with the best will in the world, sometimes your site can break after a plugin update due to a compatibility issue between plugin versions. In this situation, we would roll back to the latest backup taken before we made the update, complete the others and then attempt the update again in future when a newer version has been released that may fix the issue.
In the unlikely event your website is hacked whilst on a care plan we will rectify it for free. On our Essential plan this involves us restoring the site to a previous date before the site became compromised. On our Finest and above plans, this involves our geek team thoroughly cleansing the site to remove the malware.
